GCI adds Anchorage to list of 22 communities worldwide with 5G

by

Since 1979, GCI has revolutionized Alaska communications, connecting 240 communities and delivering 1-gig internet speeds to 80% of Alaskans. Through its Ericsson partnership, GCI will become the first to offer 3GPP standards-based 5G mobile service in Alaska, starting with the Municipality of Anchorage in 2020.

“Following our ‘North to the Future’ initiative, we’re proud to make the Last Frontier the first frontier in technological innovation,” said GCI co-founder and CEO Ron Duncan.

Access to 5G will drive the fourth industrial revolution, position Anchorage as a globally competitive business center and facilitate innovations like smart cities and AI.
