Southeast Alaska Native languages

Sealaska Heritage Institute and University of Anchorage Southeast are bestowing 18 students committed to learning and teaching Southeast Alaska Native languages to receive immersive language training, including summer language institutes and additional language opportunities.

Through the initiative, Haa Yoo X̱’atángi Deiyí: Our Language Pathways, the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian scholars are receiving full scholarships to UAS to complete their studies.

All participants are working towards a bachelor’s degree to earn a Type M Certificate through the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development so they can provide language learning and teaching support across the region once they complete the program.
