Happy 75th, Alaska Highway!

Alaska Highway Sign

Nov. 22, 2017, marks the Alaska Highway’s 75th anniversary. Covering approximately 1,400 miles, the Alcan starts in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and ends in Delta Junction, Alaska.

Originally built in 1942 as part of the World War II effort, the highway opened to the public in 1948, and today continues to provide crucial access for goods, services and, of course, travelers. From Muncho Lake’s blue-green waters to the Wrangell-St. Elias Mountains’ tall peaks, the highway is remote but offers stunning scenery.

The best way to experience it? Grab a copy of The Milepost and hit the road.
