by
Nome Alaska

Rich with gold rush history, Nome, Alaska, is currently celebrating 120 years since gold was first discovered in town. History lovers can check out retired dredges, steam engines and mining claims.

The coastal Arctic town is home to the Bering Land Bridge National Preserve Visitor Center, one of the most remote national parks in the United States. Nome is also a prime spot for aurora viewing.

If you time your trip right, you can even be one the of lucky spectators who line the streets of Nome as mushers finish the nearly 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
