AFN Convention Focuses on Leadership, Partnerships and Social Justice in 2017

by

The Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) Convention is the largest annual U.S. gathering of Native people, and the 2017 annual convention, coming up Oct. 19-21 in Anchorage, promises to be another banner year.

The convention theme, “Strength in Unity: Leadership-Partnerships-Social Justice,” will focus on statewide unity and the challenges and opportunities Native communities face. Event highlights include keynote speeches from Native leaders, expert panels, its popular art show and evening cultural performances known as Quyana Alaska.

Convention delegates are elected based on a population formula taking into account the number of Native residents in an area.
