School is almost out and so is the Alaska sun. Here are the top festivals for the month of May:

May 9-12: Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival in Homer is Alaska’s largest wildlife-viewing festival. The festival includes over 100 events about the migration of shorebirds.

May 16-19: Little Norway Festival honors Norwegian heritage in Petersburg.

May 17-19: Seward Mermaid Festival celebrates the harbor opening and the relationship between city and ocean, with local vendors.

May 23-25: Kodiak Crab Festival is an annual celebration of the sea’s resources, with family-friendly activities like the Crab Fest Parade.
