Increase your chances of viewing the aurora borealis

by The 100 Companies

As fall in Alaska approaches, darker night skies make a return, meaning that prime aurora viewing season is near. Catching glimpses of those purple, green and blue hues in the sky is a must-do experience for anyone and chances greatly improve from late August through mid-April. Hoping to see the dancing lights this year? Here are a few tips to increase your chances:

1. Spend at least three nights in the Arctic or Interior regions of Alaska. These regions are underneath an auroral oval.

2. Monitor Explore Fairbanks’ aurora tracker for up-to-date data.

3. Get outside every night, ideally away from city lights.
