• Most historic: Eldred Rock Lighthouse in Haines was built in 1906 and is the oldest original lighthouse in Alaska.
• Most unique: Stay overnight at the Lighthouse at Halibut Cove for picturesque views of the towering mountains meeting the ocean.
• Most spirited: Also in Homer, visit the faux lighthouse that’s home to the Salty Dawg Saloon.
• Most scenic: Tree Point Lighthouse in Ketchikan is situated between the Tongass Narrows, home to eagles, whales and other must-see Alaska wildlife.

As a board member of the Cape Decision Lighthouse Society I take umbrage with your listing of Tree Point Lighthouse as the most scenic. There are few places as scenic as our lighthouse on the southern tip of Kuiu Island at the entrance to Chatham and Sumner Straits.
Also it would be great if you highlighted the important work Alaskan’s are doing (mostly as volunteers) to preserve some of our lighthouses. Cape St. Elias, Five Finger, Point Retreat, Sentinel Island, and Cape Decision all have devoted non-profit organizations dedicated to their preservation and continued use.
