Leaving Fairbanks and following the Richardson Highway leads drivers right to Valdez. This 364-mile journey takes just over six hours and offers several fun pitstops along the way.
The first town outside of Fairbanks on this drive is North Pole. Say hi to the big guy with a stop at the Santa Claus House. Further south, don’t miss the giant mosquito sculptures at Delta Junction and plan a visit to Rika’s Roadhouse.
Around mile 216, take in views of the world-famous Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Finally, stop for gas and a meal at Meier’s Lake Roadhouse before the final stretch to Valdez.
