GCI’s annual mountaintop TERRA site refueling efforts are underway. The sites, which allow GCI to bring broadband to remote communities across the state, are reachable only by helicopter.

GCI works with local businesses and aircraft flown by local pilots who know the area and understand what it takes to do the job efficiently and safely. The fuel, about 90,000 gallons by the time the job is done, is bought from Alaska companies. Each helicopter trip carries between 410-440 gallons of fuel in as many as 16 different loads per site. The project’s expected to be completed Sept. 1.
