More than 1,000 people braved the ice-cold Goose Lake water for the Tenth Annual Polar Plunge in Anchorage last month.
The freezing event is the largest fundraiser for Special Olympics Alaska and has raised $2.5 million since its inception in 2009. GCI, the presenting sponsor, had 16 employees who took the plunge and raised $17,500.
Individuals, teams and businesses joined in the family-friendly activities and have collectively raised nearly $265,000. Although the event is over, it’s not too late to help Special Olympics Alaska reach its fundraising goal of $400,000 by donating online.
