Ketchikan is home to a variety of cultures, including an active Filipino community. After the Filipino Community Center closed in 2015, the Ketchikan Wellness Coalition applied for a grant from The Alaska Community Foundation to reignite traditional folk dance and music classes in Ketchikan. Now that they have received funding, programs will return this May.
Instructors of the newly established Magsayawan program will highlight many cultures including the Filipino culture through dance, music and art. Designed to promote health and ancestral heritage, the classes will be for adults and children alike.
Registration will be available closer to the program opening.
