Feb. 1 is National Baked Alaska Day, and it’s only fitting that we would honor the Last Frontier’s namesake dessert. Made from soft cake, topped with ice cream then covered with meringue, baked Alaska was invented to commemorate purchasing Alaska from Russia.
World-class chefs from New Orleans to Paris tout their own varieties of delectable baked Alaska dishes, but we are confident that the real experts reside in Alaska. Perhaps it’s the stunning views of the Chugach Mountains and Turnagain Arm at Alyeska Resort’s Seven Glaciers Restaurant, but its baked Alyeska takes top prize in the baked Alaska category.
