This new year is full of exciting, notable events for all to enjoy. Mark the calendar for the following banner events in Alaska:
• This year, the Iditarod celebrates its 50th anniversary. This is an iconic Alaska event and the race begins on March 5 in Anchorage.
• Sealaska Heritage Institute’s biennial celebration returns June 8-11 in Juneau. This is the event’s 40th anniversary honoring and celebrating Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian cultures.
• On Aug. 7, IRONMAN Alaska will make its debut in Juneau. Athletes will test their limits swimming in Auke Lake, biking along the Glacier Highway and running through Mendenhall Valley.
