One of Alaska’s greatest road trips: Anchorage to Valdez

Planning an Anchorage to Valdez road trip? This scenic drive takes around five hours and covers 305 miles on the Glenn and Richardson highways.

While on the road trip, there are some essential stops. Matanuska Glacier has a scenic turnout right off the Glenn Highway that provides stunning views of the 27-mile-long glacier.

Just past Glennallen, find out if the reds are running in the Copper River. There’s great dipnetting here for Alaska residents. Or peep the Wrangell Mountains at the Copper Center Visitor Center. Break for the Bridal Veil and Horsetail waterfalls in Keystone Canyon, just outside of Valdez.
