What is your secret salsa ingredient? At Barnacle, the secret weapon is kelp. Yes, kelp. Barnacle’s offerings include kelp pickles, kelp hot sauce and kelp seasoning – just to name a few.

The kelp used in Barnacle products comes from local farms across the coast of Alaska. The Hump Island Oyster Company in Ketchikan is one such supplier. The family-owned company has been farming kelp since 2016.

While kelp farming is relatively new in Alaska, kelp seems to be the quintessential Alaska-grown product. All that is needed is clean, cold water, good currents and some hard-working Alaskans. So get yourself some kelp!
