The Alaska Zoo hopes to ring in 2019 with an updated brown bear habitat, and BP is generously matching up to $20,000 in private donations. Any contribution made to the Alaska Zoo’s general fund will be matched dollar for dollar.
The current brown bear habitat was created in 1983. Since then, many of the natural resources that were once there have been destroyed.
The upgrades to the habitat are planned to restructure the bears’ home by including platforms, boulders, a tree enrichment structure for climbing as well as indestructible Boomer Ball toys, always a favorite of the brown bears.
