The Fairbanks North Star School District and NAACP are sponsoring partners of an annual essay and art contest for children with the theme of Black Resistance. Students can interpret the topic by creating videos, posters, essays, paintings or dance and submit by Wednesday, Feb. 28.
To inspire kids’ imaginations, check out BlackinAlaska.org and pay a visit to “Black in Alaska: Interior Edition” at UAF’s Alaska Museum of the North. The multimedia exhibit showcases photos, interviews and videos documenting the diverse lives of over 40 Black Alaskans from Fairbanks and around the state, using the art of storytelling to inspire connection.
