Fairbanks’ annual celebration of Native cultures

by The 100 Companies

Back in 1973, a group of interdepartmental University of Alaska Fairbanks students and faculty devised a festival honoring the artistic expressions of each Alaska Native culture. In just several months, they organized the first spring festival at the university showcasing the traditions of Native artists, craftspeople and dancers “dedicated to facilitating understanding and appreciation [of] Native as well as non-Native people.”

Students have shouldered the planning ever since, and this year’s Festival of Native Arts kicks off Thursday, Feb. 27 through March 1. The 2025 theme is “Remembering Our Past to Strengthen Our Future.” Try your hand at the logo contest!
