When it comes to watching the ceremonial start of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, all Alaskans have their favorite spot.
Thousands will line Fourth Avenue in downtown Anchorage and make a day of it by also attending the Fur Rendezvous winter festival.
Others line the trail along Chester Creek because they can get even closer to the teams. The ever-popular “muffin stop” near Alaska Pacific University always draws a crowd.
Campbell Airstrip is another favorite viewing spot for those who like seeing the mushers pack up their team and gear before heading out to Willow for the official restart.
