The Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program hosted thousands of students, faculty, alumni and strategic partners at its 24th annual Celebration Jan. 18. Honoring students’ past achievements and looking to the future, this year’s celebration theme was “Beyond the Stratosphere” and featured Dr. Bernard A. Harris Jr.
A NASA astronaut, Dr. Harris earned his medical doctorate, flew on two shuttle missions and was the first African American to perform a spacewalk. Taking time to meet the ANSEP students and participate in a question and answer session, Dr. Harris shared an inspiring message that, with education and effort, anything is possible.
