Play ball! Fairbanks’ 2021 Midnight Sun Baseball Game

by The 100 Companies

The Midnight Sun Baseball Game is a Fairbanks tradition, dating back to 1906 when two local pubs hosted the first-ever game as a summer solstice celebration. The prize? The winning team had bragging rights for the entire winter.

Today, the game is played through midnight. Thanks to the 22 hours of daylight in Fairbanks on solstice, no artificial light is ever needed. The Alaska Goldpanners adopted the game in 1960, playing against the Fairbanks Pioneers. They have hosted the game every year since. The 116th game will be held at the Growden Field on June 20 at 10 p.m.
