As summer comes to a close, there are plenty of events worth a weekend getaway in locations across the state. Here are some of our favorites:
• The Alaska State Fair ends Sept. 6 in Palmer. Who can resist the rides, fair food and outdoor concerts?
• Fun-guys and gals can head to Cordova for its Fungus Festival, running from Sept. 10-12.
• Looking to get in one last foot race before the snow? Head to Fairbanks for the Equinox Marathon and half marathon (Sept. 18).
• The Seward Arts & Music Festival from Sept. 24-25 is just the antidote to wash away end-of-summer blues.
