World AIDS Day (Dec. 1) is a time to remember those lost to HIV and unite in fighting the disease. Fairbanks’ Interior Aids Association does just that by striving to “improve the quality of life for people living with, affected by or at risk for HIV/AIDS … through harm reduction, resource development and advocacy.”
Prevention services include education and support for people with HIV to decrease the risk of transmission; the Northern Exchange Syringe Service Program, which provides safer drug use supplies; and medication-assisted treatment for IV drug users.
Consider donating to the IAA and pick the program you’d like to support.
