Thumbs up:

• Public safety: Finally! Backlog of sexual assault examination kits has been cleared.

•  Alaska women: The bumper sticker about what Alaska women kick remains true. Astronauts, Miss America, athletes and other trailblazers make our state proud.

•  Alaska nonprofits: Charities brace for cash infusion after Hilcorp’s gift of $25K to each employee to donate to their favorite cause.

•  ANCSA at 50: Landmark legislation that changed Alaska for the better celebrates 50 years.

•  Daylight: It may only be a few seconds at a time, but we’re gaining daylight.

Thumbs down:

• Omicron: Deja vu. On the plus side, we’re learning the Greek alphabet.
