The Midnight Sun Boy Scouts Council’s Distinguished Citizens of the Year award honors those who made substantial contributions to their community and Alaska overall.

This year’s recipients are Bernie Karl and Connie Parks-Karl. The couple met working on the Alyeska Pipeline over 40 years ago. Both are very involved in the Fairbanks community, but their goodwill spans across Alaska.

Together, they run several successful businesses, including Chena Hot Springs Resort, which they’ve turned into a popular destination for Alaskans and visitors from around the world.

They will be honored at the Fairbanks Distinguished Citizens of the Year banquet on Dec. 11.
