Juneau’s anticipated Aak’w Rock music festival returns this month

by The 100 Companies

Juneau’s biennial Aak’w Rock music festival returns to the stage Sept. 21-23. Juneau is becoming a burgeoning Indigenous music and art destination, and Aak’w Rock is the only Indigenous music festival in the country. The festival will feature everything from funk and soul to classical and country.

The event derives its name from the ancestral homelands of the Áakʼw Ḵwáan – which means “people of the little lake” – in an area called Dzantikʼihéeni, or “river at the base of Flounder Hill” in the Lingít language. Today, this area is also known as Juneau.

Tickets for the event can be purchased online.
