No matter that the Baked Alaska was first created in New York City at the famed Delmonico’s in 1867. Or that the chef originally named it Alaska, Florida to describe the warm vs. cold layer cake. This well-known dessert was created to celebrate the U.S. purchase of the Alaska Territory (for a mere two cents per acre).
