National Women’s History Month was created to highlight the many unsung female figures in our nation’s history. Each of us has benefited from contributions made by women who have helped to build and protect America.
In 1980, President Jimmy Carter observed that “the achievements, leadership, courage, strength and love of the women who built America was as vital as that of the men whose names we know so well.”
Celebrations honoring female heroes will run throughout the month of March and will focus on this year’s theme – “Visionary Women: Champions of Peace & Nonviolence.” Learn more information about the month’s origins.
