Facing an already tough summer, the Alaska SeaLife Center issued an urgent plea for funds to keep the marine wildlife rescue and rehabilitation shelter open.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the center is only seeing about 25% of its regular visitors and projects it needs $2 million before Sept. 30, to bridge the funding gap.
The center is asking Alaska residents to help by purchasing a membership, donating, starting an individual fundraiser or visiting in person. Watch the call for help video here.
GCI is also stepping in to assist and has created a challenge to Alaskans on social media.
