Alaska villages, tribes to receive $8M in federal funding

Community development projects for 14 Alaska villages and tribes are going to be receiving crucial support thanks to a nearly $8 million block grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.

As part of the Indian Community Development Block Grant program, recipients can use funds for infrastructure, housing and economic development projects.

The communities receiving assistance are located in Southeast, Southcentral and the Arctic. The specific list of recipients includes Arctic Village, Anchorage, Hydaburg, Igiugig, Ketchikan, Kokhanok, Metlakatla, Kwigillingok, Nanwalek, Bethel, Petersburg, Venetie and Yakutat.

The block grant will award a total of $63 million to 85 communities nationwide.
